A Gunmetal Valve casting is a type of valve used to control the flow of fluid through a pipe or pipeline. It is called "gunmetal" because it is traditionally made from a bronze alloy that resembles the color of gunmetal, although nowadays other materials like brass or stainless steel are also used.

The Gunmetal Valve casting is a linear motion valve, meaning it operates by lifting or lowering a gate or wedge-shaped disc to open or close the flow passage. When the valve is fully open, the gate is completely out of the flow path, allowing for maximum flow. Conversely, when the valve is fully closed, the gate completely blocks the flow, preventing any passage of fluid.
